Having stayed in a holiday cottage near Bude on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall for nearly two weeks, my wife Liz and I decided it was high time we paid this popular seaside holiday resort a visit.
When on holiday we prefer to spend out time exploring more out of the way, less crowded places, normally avoiding the more developed tourist traps, but with our time in Devon and Cornwall drawing to a close it was time to bite the bullet and see what Bude had to offer.
So we drove to what we thought was the more peaceful side of Bude, parking up at Crooklets Beach for a walk along the promenade and up onto the cliffs just to the north of the town.
The weather was somewhat mixed during our visit, with alternating patches of sunlight followed by rain showers as heavy clouds swept by overhead.
A bit dodgy for a seaside stroll, but much better for photography than plain blue skies.
And it's the lively sky that adds some much needed 'oomph' to this image of a typical British seaside scene - a row of beach huts set along the promenade at Crooklets Beach, seemingly abandoned now that the summer holidays were over and the weather was turning autumnal.
