During the two week holiday that my wife Liz and I spent exploring the landscapes and coastlines of Devon and Cornwall in September 2019 we took a couple of days' driving along the English Channel coast of South Cornwall, using our Ordinace Survey maps to seek out less well known places to visit.
One out of the way seaside location that appeared on our map was the beach at Porthluney Bay, accessed along a narrow, winding country lane that you don't want to meet oncoming traffic on.
We arrived here late in the afternoon, with only a few hardy folk left on the beach enjoying the last of the sun.
There was plenty of gorgeous scenery on offer for me to point my camera at, but what caught my eye first of all was this row of sandcastles pointing seawards, awaiting the turn of the tide to end their temporary existance.
Kind of a metaphor for the feeble efforts of man in the face of the mighty forces of nature.
