I love the interplay of light and shadow, and am always on the lookout for lighting situations that convey meaning as well as a visual treat.
So I was delighted to find this stone walled room in deep shadow, punctuated by a brightly lit opening filled with backlit grasses during a walk around the decaying buildings of Spinalonga, just off the coast of Crete in the Mediterranean sea.
Until quite recently Spinalonga was a leper colony, on which the lepers had made quite a supportive community for themselves.
In my mind, this bright spot in an otherwise gloomy and dark room sort of acts as a metaphor for that.
Something good to be found where you'd least expect it.
