The small fishing village of Clovelly, on the North Devon coast, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in this part of the country, with its 'olde worlde' charms of steep cobbled streets, traditional cottages and picturesque harbour.
Just a short drive from our holiday cottage near Bude, spending a day here was an obvious choice for my wife Liz and I as part of our two week stay spent exploring Devon and Cornwall.
Although the school summer holidays were over Clovelly was still pretty busy on the day we visited, and it was quite a challenge to try and photograph the views without including too many bodies in the compositions.
So we took a leisurely stroll down the cobblestone lanes to the harbour, spending quite a bit of time just sitting on the high harbour wall in the sunshine, licking one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted.
After a while spent relaxing and photographing various scenes around the harbour we started on our slow climb back up those steep lanes to the top of the village. (Actually, Liz took the Land Rover taxi!)
Just a short way up from the harbour I came across this delightful arrangement of flowering shrubs, planted for the most part in old wellies and placed on the old stone steps of one of the small fishermans' cottages.
Too good to miss, I unlimbered my camera once again and took a few shots of the little scene before me, trying different compositions of which this one is my favourite.
