Details Details. They (whoever 'they' are) say that the devil is in the details, but for myself I just love seeking out quirky details and isolating from their surroundings in an image.
Sometimes a photograph of a detail, taken from a much larger scene can say more about the nature and atmosphere of a place than the more traditional full on landscape image.
This door is a case in point. Photographed during a visit to Port Quin on the north coast of Cornwall, the delapidated door epitomised the air of genteel decay prevalent in this sleepy little hamlet.
I was particularly attracted to the rust streaks which gave a welcome splash of colour against the grey of the wood.
If I'd though a bit more about what I was doing - this was a grab shot taken as I walked by - I would have got much closer to the hinges or padlock and emphasised the rust more. Still, this great hobby of photography is a continual learning process, and I'll bear that lesson in mind for next time.
