Dubrovnik's troubled history can be seen writ large in the old town, with its buttress-like walls, turrets and castles.
Even this secluded bay on the eadge of the sea had some pretty impressive defences, such as the small castle pictured here.
What drew me to make this image was the sub-surface rocks, which in reality were stained various shades of green with algae.
I knew the patterns and textures of the rocks would be most appealing with the colour removed, so I took the photo with a conversion to monochrome in mind.
My polarising filter did a grand job of cutting through the surface glare on the water to reveal the hidden visual treasures beneath.
