The morning of March 20th 2015 dawned bright and clear, which delighted me as I'd booked the day off work to do some serious photography of the partial eclipse due to start at 8.30am and last till 10.30am.
My location of choice to view the event was from the promenade at Rhos-on-Sea on the North Wales coast, looking eastwards over Colwyn Bay.
I chose this spot rather than an inland location as the skies are usually clearer at the coast, before the air is forced to rise, cool and form clouds over the mountains of Snowdonia.
In the end I got a pretty good show, even though variable amounts of cloud did pass over the sun, playing havoc with my exposure values!
And talking of exposures, I used a home made sun filter on the 100-400mm zoom lens which worked great when the sun was free of the clouds, but turned everything black as soon as the sun was obscured.
This particular image was taken about a third of the way into the eclipse, with a little light cloud in front of the sun adding a bit of texture to the sky.
