The story behind this image

During our two week stay in Estes Park, Colorado, my wife Liz and I saw many nice touches to the town that made our holiday highly enjoyable.

Although we spent most of our days exploring the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park, we also found the time just to wander around town, enjoying the sights, sounds and coffee to be found in this lovely place.

One of our favourite walks was along the Falls River, which runs along the south side of town and has a lovely river walk to enjoy, with nice artistic displays of various kinds to look at along the way.

One of the largest and most impressive was this larger than life bronze sculpture of a mountain lion, perched on a rock by the side of the river.

The first time I saw this piece I wanted to photograph it, but the full on sunlight was way too harsh to allow detail and colour to be fully appreciated.

Fortunately for me, the next time we went for a walk along the rivet it was an overcast afternoon so I was able to take this photograph without too much trouble with contrast, although I did need my polarising filter and a fair bit of highlight and shadow recovery in Adobe Lightroom to bring out the best of the colour and detail in the bronze.
