The hidden gorge of Fairy Glen, near Betws-y-Coed, is a wonderland of water, rock and woodland.
Accessed down a tricky footpath it's not the easiest place to get to, especially when fully laden with camera gear, but well worth the effort.
Over the years the river Conwy has eroded, smoothed and polished its way down the gorge, leaving fantastically sculpted rocks in its wake which are a visual treat and well worth photographing in their own right.
When photographing scenes like this, I really like to juxtapose both moving and still elements within the composition.
In this case the river, streaked with foam from the rapids just upstream, provided the moving element whilst the seemingly unchanging rocks provided the static element.
With low light levels in the gorge and a polarising filter fitted to the front of my Canon, I was able to make the most of a long exposure to emphasise the streaking in the water, ending up with an image that provides a compelling contrast between movement and stillness.
