It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in late March when my wife Liz and I decided to head to our nearest bit of coast at Flint, on the side of the river Dee estuary, to take a look at the imposing castle ruins and have a walk along the North Wales coastal path.
Centuries ago this castle was right by the sea (as the plaque illustrates), but over time the estuary silted up and now it's only a few times a year that the tide reaches as far as the castle walls.
But even so, the castle, with its imposing stonework and turrets, makes for a great photographic subject, especially when the heavens above are partly covered in a sheet of white high altitude cloud and the golden castle walls glow in the sun against a deep blue sky.
I hope that this edifice will be around for a long time yet.
