Returning back to our hotel from an evening's excursion to Fiesole, in the hills above Florence, Italy, Liz and I were suprised to hear loud music and a large crowd in the square surrounding the Duomo.
Closer investigation revealed the start of the annual Florence fun run, or Corre, with dayglo clad participants setting off at regular intervals on a route around the town.
Well it was too good a spectacle to pass by, so we parked ourselves on a convenient bench to watch the fun.
After a few minutes I thought I'd have a go at photographing the scene.
Even though it was the middle of the night and light levels were low and I didn't have a tripod, I played around with apertures and ISO until I had a shutter speed at which I could hand hold the Camera still enough to capture the walls of the Duomo in the background without noticeable blur while allowing the runners to blur slightly in the foreground.
In the end I was really pleased with this result, combining both ancient and modern aspects of this lovely city.
