During the few hours that Liz and I spent exploring the Boboli Gardens in Florence, the single most impressive sculpture that we saw was this maginificent, and huge, cracked bronze head by Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj.
This was so unlike the more classical renaissance works scattered around that it really stood out.
I particularly liked the patina of age and staining that added so much character to the work.
I've got no idea how this work was constructed, or how it ended up in the Boboli Gardens, but I'm certainly glad it did as it was such a striking piece, and so unexpected in so classical a setting.
Nice one Florence!
