The border country between England and Wales is redolent with the history of conflict, and maybe the best depiction of that history is Offa's Dyke.
Running from Chepstow in the south to Prestatyn in the north, the 176 mile long ditch and earthwork is now a National Trail, with a section running near to where I live in Mold.
This signpost marks the path as it ascends the flanks of Foel Fenlli, part of the Clwydian range of mountains and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Quite often, in the early morning or late evening, I'll make the trek up Offa's Dyke to the summit of Foel Fenlli and watch as the sun rises or sets over the Clwydians with the beautiful Vale of Clwyd stretched out below me like a patchwork tablecloth.
Usually I'll take my camera, hoping to catch the low angled sun playing over the scene before me, and I'll wonder about all the history and peoples that have trod this path before me, and how blessed I am to be able to enjoy God's creation in peace and tranquility.
