The countryside of North Wales is redolent with historical industrial remains, some still in use as tourist and leisure attractions.
The area around the town of Wrexham is particulary rich in heritage with relics from mining, steel, iron, coal, railways and canals all available for the discerning historian to explore.
One really amazing piece of industrial heritage is the Pontcysyllte aquaduct at Froncysyllte, still in use today carrying canal longboats high over the valley of the river Dee.
But it's not just boats that can cross the aquaduct, as there's a narrow walkway running the length of the structure which brave souls can traverse while looking down two hundred feet or so to the valley floor below.
I can't resist stuff this this, so camera in hand I set off across this imposing structure, stopping every now and then to lean out over the railing to take photos like this one, showing the river Dee running through the lovely countryside below.
In the distance you can just make out another engineering marvel, the Cefn Mawr railway viaduct, yet another example of the extraordinary engineering to be found here in North Wales.
