The highly photogenic gerbera - every photographer's favourite flower.
And why not?
With its bright colours, tight petal structure and well defined centre, the gerbera makes for a dramatic and relatively easily composed image.
The flower can be pictured in a number of different ways; with or without a background; shallow or large depth of field and so on.
For this example I decided to eliminate everything but the flower from the frame, and to use a small aperture to get everything in focus, rather than go for the contemporary blurry look.
One thing I wasn't expecting though was just how many dust spots there were on my camera's sensor, all horribly visible at f22, and requiring a deal of cloning in PhotoShop to fix.
Still, the end result was worth the effort.
