Apparently I live just a short drive away from a famous national (indeed, international) centre of learning, Gladstone's Library in Hawarden, North Wales, and I never knew it!
Driving past on our way home one recent sunny afternoon, my wife Liz and I decided to stop and have a look to see what all the fuss was about.
Well I was very suprised to find such a lovely building and grounds. It's the sort of place I wouldn't expect to find tucked away near busy roads and housing estates, but there you are.
Needless to say I took advantage of the visit photographically speaking, with this image being the best of the bunch that I took that day and featuring a massive statue of Mr Gladstone himself.
Maybe I should pay more attention to the few square miles around where I live, perhaps there are a few more hidden gems waiting to be discovered with a bit of effort.
