On the dry island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands water is a precious resource, and managing it on a large and small scale is very important.
One of the largest water storage facilities is the Presa del Parralillo reservoir, based on this impressive concrete dam butressed against volcanic rock.
A short diversion to see what the dam looked like from below brought my wife Liz and I to this spot where I captured this image just a few metres from the road.
