During our week long winter break on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands my wife Liz and I spent most of our time off the beaten tourist tracks, exploring the less developed and more natural north coast.
One of our favourite spots on this part of the island is Puerto de Las Nieves, a charming seaside town with just a smattering of tourists to be seen amongst the locals.
Walking along the ocean front promenade along the rock strewn volcanic beach takes you past this bronze sculpture, depicting three poets, Saulo Toron, Tomas Morales and Alonso Quesada, who visited Puerto de Las Nieves early in the 20th century.
But I wasn't so much interested in poetry than in the glorious green colour of the bronze, set against the deep blue atlantic sky and volcanic peaks on the skyline.
