One feature that the Seychelle island of Gran Canaria has an abundance of is rock.
But not just any old rock, as my wife Liz and I found out during our week long explore of the coast and interior.
Gran Canaria is essentially an extinct volcano, and evidence of that is seen in the plugs of hard volcanic rock that stick out of the softer, more eroded rocks surrounding them, forming a fantastical landscape that's great to look at and photograph.
One of the most interesting volcanic plugs is this one, situated by the side of the GC-200 interior road, in which veins of different coloured ores are exposed on the surface of the rock.
To me, these veins of ore remind me of a colourful silk scarf, draped over the shoulder of a beautiful woman - but maybe I'm just a romantic at heart!
