This is Desert View, at the eastern end of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Liz and I were spending a day at the canyon during our holiday, and to see as much as we could we drove along Route 64 which runs along part of the canyon's south rim.
Desert view is the farthest east you can go along Route 64 before the canyon swings north to Page and the road swings south to rejoin the interstate.
At this point the canyon isn't so deep, and you can clearly see the Colorado river, as shown in this photo, snaking through the eroded rock and disappearing into the distant haze.
