The story behind this image

My wife Liz and I were enjoying a stroll along the promenade at Llandudno's West Shore on a chilly January afternoon when all of a sudden a shaft of golden light from the setting sun broke through a gap in the clouds on the western horizon, bathing the limestone face of the Great Orme with a fiery glow.

Well, the gentle stroll went out of the window as I raced onto the pebble beach, wrestling with tripod and camera as I ran while looking for a good composition for a photo at the same time.

It's amazing how un-relaxing landscape photography can be at times!

After a little searching and bending of the knees I settled on this arrangement of lines of tide wrack, leading the eye from the bottom of the frame to the focal point of the old stone toll house at the foot of the headland.

The light held for a few more minutes before the sun disappeared behind the horizon so I tried a few different angles, but my original composition proved to be the best i.e. the strongest arrangement of the elements across the frame of the final image.

I'm glad I made the effort to get these photos, as I'd never seen light like this before at the Great Orme, and I may never see it again, but at least I've got a memory of that lovely scene to enjoy and share with you.
