This is the surfer's paradise of Hell's Mouth at the tip of the Llyn Peninsula on the welsh coast.
Funnily enough, there were no surfers in evidence on this particular evening in early January when myself, my son-in-law and a couple of grandchildren decided in a moment of madness to spend an hour there as night fell, braving the strong onshore breeze and freezing drizzle in the process.
Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I heaved most of my camera gear over fences and soaked fields to capture some moody seascapes while my younger relatives played chicken with the rather large waves rolling in up the beach.
Needless to say the sea won and they were soon soaked up to the knees, while I photographed them as ghostly blurs against the receding surf.
But they had the last laugh later, as I was so intent on capturing the patterns of receding surf I didn't notice one particularly large wave as it swept up the beach and over my boots.
