As well as time spent exploring the larger lakes of Como and Garda in the mountains of northern Italy during our two week stay in this wonderful part of the world, my wife Liz and I also took a day to visit Lake Idro.
Much smaller than Lake Como or Lake Garda, Lake Idro proved to be a visual jewel of a place, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
This photo was taken at Idroland, a nature reserve and outdoor pusuits centre at the northernmost end of the lake, and shows the view towards the mountains complete with an improbably perched monastary high on a rocky overlook.
