Although most of the two weeks my wife Liz and I spent in northern Italy in the autumn of 2018 was taken up driving around the beautiful lakes that adorn this region, we did also take the odd drive up into the mountains, following the tiny roads shown on our tourist map.
One such trip took us from the shores of the beautiful Lake Idro up a winding road through forests up to the medieval town of Bagolino.
Bagolino proved to be a visually fascinating place, with houses and a large church built on terraces up a very steep sloped hillside.
This image gives an impression of the rather vertical nature of the town.
