In the autumn of 2018 my wife Liz and I spent a fantastic two weeks exploring the lakes and mountains of northern Italy.
Our apartment was situated above the charming town of Varenna, right on the shores of Lake Como, and although we spent a lot of time driving around the region, we also took time out to enjoy the local delights of Varenna itself.
The main lakeside promenade, called the 'Greenway dei Patriarchi' was one of our favourite strolling routes which, along with lovely views of the lake and mountains, also had some beautiful old stone carved balustrades along its length.
Very atmospheric and well worth a photo, especially in this shot with a single red flower acting as a vivid focal point.
