During our two week holiday exploring the lakes and mountains of northern Italy, my wife Liz and I took a day trip to the city of Milan, meeting up with Attilio Alessio, a friend and colleauge of mine who lives and works in the area.
Attilio showed us round some of the sights, including the amazing Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping mall, with its art deco style architecture and beautifully preserved facades.
But it was the huge and ornate glass ceiling that took my breath away.
How they ever made that I have no idea!
