I don't know what it is about jetties that attracts me so much photographically speaking.
There's this one jetty on the East Shore of Llandudno on the North Wales coast that I must have photographed at least a hundred times now, and I still keep going back for more.
This image, taken on this selfsame jetty, maybe gives some clues as to what gets me so excited.
First of all there's the gorgeous early summer's morning light reflecting of the sea, smoothed into a mercury like sheen by a long exposure. Next there's the stark geometry of the jetty and post, cutting through the composition like a knife. On top of that there's the contrast between the lit parts of the image and the completely black silhoutted details (rendered black on purpose).
The state of the tide plays a big part as well. I really like the effect when the jetty is half covered with water in alternating patches of light and dark.
