Liz and I visited Koper, the main port for Slovenia, during a cruise holiday we enjoyed around the Mediterranean sea with P&O.
Sailing into port on a huge cruise liner gives a unique perspective for photography, as you're on top of the equivalent of a 10 storey building parked out in the sea.
This means you can look down into towns from above, thus getting a completely different view than is available at street level.
As is the norm with coastal towns along this stretch of coast, there's an old section, comprising narrow alleys, a shady square and the obligatory clock tower. Influences left over from the time in history when the Venetian 'empire' help sway over this coast.
Outside of the relatively small historical centre of town Koper is a bustling port, and seeing that Slovenia has only 50 kilometres of coastline, it's a vital lifeline for the economic health of this newly formed country.
