I have a thing about photographing old doorways, not only do they appeal to me on an aesthetic level, but there's also an air of mystery to them that I find intriguing.
What lies beyond? What stories could a doorway tell if it could talk? What of the lives of those who lived and worked here in the past?
So show me an old doorway, with peeling paint and rusty hinges, and I inevitably reach for my camera.
This particular example is to be found at Ravenglass, by the sea on the west coast of England's Lake District, which is where my wife Liz and I spent a peaceful couple of hours in the late afternoon during a long weekend's break in July 2020.
We'd been exploring the area around Wastwater, to the north of the Lake District, and were heading back south to our holiday let when we decided to divert to Ravenglass to catch the sunset.
With an hour or so to spare we meandered gently around the village, absorbing the relaxed 'olde worlde' ambiance and with me taking photos every few paces of the old fashioned buildings and fishing artifacts.
Just a lovely place to be at the close of the day.
