During November 2017 my wife Liz and I managed an impromtu long weekend in the Lake District, which we spent driving and walking, checking out the beautiful scenery and changeable weather.
While driving north from Conniston we saw a sign for Tarn Hows, which sparked a childhood memory in Liz from a holiday maybe fifty years ago.
So we couldn't pass by, and turned off up the small lane to explore.
It turned out that Tarn Hows is now a National Trust property and World Heritage site, complete with car park, café, loos and a well maintained path all around the lake - what a great organisation!
We took full advantage of the path, walking the three kilometre circumference of the lake while passing through some gorgeous autumnal woodland, reflecting in the still waters of the lake under a layer of diffuse cloud.
Towards the end of our circumnavigation we came out into more open country, allowing this view of the whole lake to unfold before us.
Time for a sit down and hot drink, plus the opportunity to take the overlapping images required for this panoramic view of the whole of Tarn Hows, with a bold tree punctuating the skyline to add a bit a drama.
A short while later and we were back at the car, elated at having been immersed in such peace and beauty, and well ready for our next bit of exploring in this wonderful part of the world.
