Driving towards Snowdon on the road from Capel Curig takes you past the Plas-y-Brenin outdoor centre and then along the side of Llym Mymbyr, one of the most beautiful lakes in Snowdonia and one of my favourite photographic locations.
Surrounded by mountains and close to the sea, this part of Wales attracts some extremes of weather, and you never know what's going to happen next.
On this particular day, late in the afternoon, my wife Liz and I had enjoyed a lovely few hours walking in the mountains, and we were driving back along Llyn Mymbyr as the clouds rolled in giving this dramatic lighting condition as storm and sun fought for dominance overhead.
In the background the peaks of the Snowdon horseshoe had already been swallowed up by the appraoching wrack and it was soon pelting down with rain and blowing a gale, but not before I'd been able to stop and take this one photo just as the sun shone its last beam of light onto the shore of the lake in the middle distance.
Typical Snowdonia - absolutely magnificent!
