Lake and railings #1

Lake and railings at night, West Kirby, Wirral

The story behind this image

This study in orange and blue was photographed well after sunset while my wife Liz and I were out enjoying a walk around the marine lake at West Kirby on the Wirral.

For once we had a clear sky, and as an added treat we had Venus and Jupiter glowing brightly in the twilight.

I love the light at this time of the day, as the colour gradient in the sky goes from warm orange at the horizon to deep indigo over our heads.

In the foreground we have the same colour mix as the waters of the marine lake reflect the blue sky above, while the promenade and railings catch the orange light from the nearby sodium streetlights.

This is, for me, an images of contrasts and harmonies that I find very pleasing.
