The town of Llanberis, by the side of Llyn Padarn in Snowdonia, North Wales, is a fascinating place, and a real tourist trap.
Surrounding the town is an extensive network of old slate workings that attract far fewer visitors than the shops and lakeside, but is an absolute wonderland for exploring and photography.
On this particular occasion my wife Liz and I were with friends from church, and the husband is an avid climber who knows this area well.
He took us to the amazing flooded quarry pictured here in its Autumn finery, with the colours of the foliage complimenting the iron ore stained slate walls and butresses.
This particular quarry is a magnet for divers, as the water is up to sixty metres deep in places. Also, the local teenagers take to jumping off the rock buttress you can seen in the background, which is also about sixty metres high.
Needless to say, we didn't try it!
