Driving home after visiting friends at Bala, North Wales, and seeing as it was turning into a lovely summer's evening, Liz and I decided to take the scenic route home along the A4212.
I'd never driven this route before, and what a revelation! The views of the mountains of Snowdonia sillhouetted against the setting sun were just jaw dropping.
But before we got to the mountains the road took us around the shores of Llyn Celyn, a gem of a lake ringed by forest and backed by the Snowdonia foothills.
The mountains and treetops were just picking up the rays of the setting sun, while the lake was already in shadow and reflecting the colours of the sky above.
A short walk from a convenient lay-by brought us to this view, with the lake and mountains framed beautifully in a 'V' formed by the trees. Just too good an opportunity to pass by so I climbed back to the car and assembled the usual landscaping photography gear.
A few shots were in the bag before the local midge cloud descended on us and we had to hightail it back to the car arms waving to no avail.
Never mind though, it was worth an hour's itching to be able to see and photograph such a gorgeous scene.
