For me, photographing on the edge of things always yields more interesting results than photographing in the middle of things.
What do I mean? Well take this image of Penmon point on the island of Anglesey as an example.
At first glance it's a picture of a pebbly beach with a lighthouse in the background, but look more closely and you'll see that I've composed this image right on the transition where the sea meets the land - right on the edge in other words and it's this 'on the edge' aspect that lends this particular image much of its interest and appeal.
You can photograph 'on the edge' in all sorts of ways. On the edge of the day, when light turns to dark or visa versa. On the edge of a season, winter to spring for example. On the edge of a weather system as a front moves across the landscape and I'm sure you can think of many more.
Next time you're out with photography in mind, look for an edge and you won't be disappointed.
