The lighthouse at Talacre beach on the North Wales coast acts as a magnet for photographers from near and far.
Fortunately for me, I class as one of the 'near' variety, living about a 45 minute drive away which means I can pick and choose when to visit.
On this particular evening a quick study of the weather forecast and tide tables told me a visit might be worthwhile, with clear skies and a just receding tide.
I always prefer to photograph sandy beaches with a receding tide, as the sand is nice and wet and free of footprints. What I didn't bargain for was the vast expanse of beautiful ripples, which are quite rare at Talacre and really made a difference to this photo.
With sand ripples it's always worth waiting until the sun is just about to set before taking a photo, and that's also the case when a white lightouse is in the scene - anything stronger than very low angled light and the white paint just overexposes.
Anyhow, I'm really glad I made this visit to the beach, as it's very rare that so many complimentary factors come together at once, waiting to be photographed.
