The A542 road that runs from Llangollen, through the Horseshoe Pass and on to Llandegla passes through some stunning North Wales scenery.
Comprised mostly of karst limestone, this area is well known for its rolling landscape, punctuated by huge escarpments rearing out of the surrounding fields.
It was close to sunset when Liz and I were driving back along the A542 after an afternoon out in Llangollen.
Turning a corner I saw this scene laid out before me, with the low sun striking the face of the escarpement, causing the limestone to glow with a golden sheen and highlighting the rock against the shadowed foreground.
A convenient gate to a field allowed me to park up and quickly capture multiple exposures of this view, to allow for exposure blending later as I knew I couldn't get all the tonal range in one shot. The rock was just too bright and the foreground just too dark for my camera's sensor.
Of course, my God designed eye/brain combination had no trouble drinking in the beauty before me!
A few minutes later and the sun had set, leaving the view as just a memory, captured on silicon to enjoy later.
