The story behind this image

One sunny Sunday afternoon during August 2020 my wife Liz and I decided to take drive in the opposite direction from our usual haunts around North Wales, and head instead to the Wirral to have a look at the River Mersey and the famous Liverpool skyline on the far side of the water.

This was the second time I'd seen the Liverpool waterfront skyline from this angle, having been here the previous day as well, but on that occasion I'd only managed a relatively short photo session before heavy clouds had rolled across the sky, casting solid shadow over the scene.

But this day was a much more hopeful prospect, with light broken clouds scudding across the heavens, painting the buildings of Liverpool below in a moving patchwork of sunlight and shadow.

So I set up my camera on the promenade at Seacombe Dock to capture the hundreds of still images needed to create my Merseyside Timelapse #3 video.

This is one of those captures, selected to present as a standalone image thanks to the patch of sunlight striking the waterfront at the 'Three Graces'.
