Just on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, the countryside around the small market town of Llanwrst is much less rugged and unforgiving than in the more mountainous regions just a few miles down the road.
The gentle rolling landscape, although lacking in the drama of the high peaks, has a beauty based in tranquility all of its own, with well ordered farms and fields in the flood plain of the river Conwy bounded by rounded hills crowned with ancient woodlands.
It was a lovely afternoon in late October when my wife Liz and I took a drive towards Snowdonia, and I couldn't resist stopping in a layby for a few minutes to capture a few images of the pastoral scene we were passing in the low angled sunlight.
Mind you, the rather large puddle I included in the foreground of this image gives some idea of just how wet this October (2019) had been in the weeks previously.
