Llyn Cowlyd is one of the highest, bleakest and deepest reservoirs in Wales, lying as it does high in the Carneddau mountains in the Snowdonia National Park.
It also takes some getting to, with an exhilarating drive up a single track road followed by a mile long hike to the dam, which is from where I took this panoramic collage of the reservoir and surrounding peaks.
The water level was usually low, thanks to the summer drought of 2018, so I was able to walk a fair way out and get a composition including most of the dam itself.
Dramatic no doubt, but rather lacking in the natural beauty found around Llyn Geirionydd and Llyn Crafant in the valleys far below.
