Described by Natural Resources Wales as one of the finest views in North Wales, (and who am I to argue!) this is the stunningly beautiful Llyn Crafnant in the Snowdonia National Park.
Autumn is my favourite time to visit here, as the rich and varied woodlands surrounding the lake put on their colourful display of golds, yellows, oranges and browns.
I'm particularly attacted to the knarly old oak trees bordering the lake on its southern side, and while enjoying a stroll around the waters I stopped a while to compose this image, featuring an especially resplendant example.
The sky was quite bright at the time I paused, and not wanting to use a neutral density graduated filter for fear of noticeably darkening the treetop, I instead captured a series of five different exposures, each one stop apart, to create a high dynamic range blend in Adobe Lightroom later on.
I'm glad to say the technique worked really well, allowing the final image to sing with a range of tones and colours that would have been lost otherwise.
