A lovely day spent exploring the beauties of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales finished up with my wife Liz and I parked up by the side of Llyn Mymbyr, watching as the last of the twilight glowed in the sky over the peaks of the Snowdon Horseshoe to the west.
Below, the calm waters of the lake were picking up the beautiful shades of dusk in a kaleidoscope of orange, pink and mauve, while a list mist over the peaks echoed the hues in the sky above.
Conditions like this are rare in this part of the world, which is more known for wind, cloud and rain than for scenes like this one.
So, of course, I photographed the beauty in front of me.
Wanting to do the scene justice, and to enhance to mood of serene calm that had come over me waching the evening unfold, I fitted my 6 stop neutral density filter to my camera, follwed by my 2 stop ND grad to balance exposure between the sky and water.
The 6 stop ND filter allowed my to use an unusually long shutter speed, blurring the slight ripples on the surface of the water and allowing those gorgeous colours to shine through in the the sky and its reflection.
I'm glad I made the effort, as this image really captures the mood that evening in Snowdonia.
