The story behind this image

The beech woods of the Loggerheads Country Park, near my home in North Wales, were resplendant in their autumn finery as I enjoyed an afternoon's hiking and photography though this beautiful landscape.

The day was typically autumn, with a dull, overcast sky providing the ideal flat, contrastless lighting that allowed those rich, warm colours to shine through with maximum effect in this image.

The small branch, still with its leaves attached and hanging down over the path, caught my eye as I walked on by, so I stopped to compose this image.

A short pause also let me take in the sights, sounds and smells of the quiet woodland as it slowly slipped into its winter sleep.

There's nothing quite like a wood in autumn, and although this image conveys something of the ambiance, you really have to get out there to fully appreciate the understated beauty in God's creation all around you.
