The island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean Sea is a far cry from North Wales - you'd never see outdoor dining at night in shirt sleeves for one thing!
This is the lovely main square in Old Alcudia, the original part of the town that's enclosed by impressive city walls, and my wife Liz and I had just finished a meal and were sitting down watching the world go by.
Of course I had my camera and tripod with me, so sitting doing nothing wasn't really on the cards now was it?
After a few attempts to capture the nature of this place in a single exposure, I realised that the only way I was going to represent some of the atmosphere and bustle in a photo was to produce a panorama of the whole square, rather than just a segment of it.
Queue the tripod, which I carefully levelled before taking the seven exposures necessary to capture the whole of the view we were enjoying that night.
In post precessing I tried removing the colour cast caused by the artifical lights, but I found that the resulting image had a 'cool' feel to it that was at odds with the 'warm' ambiance surrounding us.
So in the end I just dialled in a little white balance adjustment, without completely removing the warmth of the light.
