Our Mallorca guide book described the small town of Deia as one of the prettiest on the island, so it was with some anticipation that Liz and I drove along the MA-10 late in the afternoon in order to see and photograph it.
One time home of english poet Robert Graves, we were expecting to see something really special in terms of location and arcitecture, but, to be honest, we were a bit disappointed.
The hillside location was nice enough, but there was nothing really interesting to see buildings-wise.
In the end I just took a couple of photos from the roadside and we drove on in search of richer visual pastures.
Back home, looking again at the couple of photos I took of Deia, I got to thinking that maybe there was something better that I hadn't seen at the time, and that with a different rendering a meaningful image could be extracted from the somewhat bland original RAW file.
Considering the town's historical significance I tried a few monochrome conversions in Adobe Lightroom before settling on this highly toned and vignetted final version.
I'm still not impressed with Deia, but I think I've done the place as much of a favour as possible here in this image.
