sa Colabra rocks!
Well, no it doesn't, not in terms of a destination for someone wanting to see authentic Mallorca anyway.
But in terms of rocks - it rocks!
sa Colabra, on the west coast of Mallorca, is built around the Torrent de Pareis, which has some really amazing karst limestone geology to admire.
In many places the cliffs have eroded to expose hidden caves, stalactites, stalagmites and other weird formations associated with this landscape.
So while all the other tourists were photographing the sea and the few not so tastefully developed restaurants (expensive and not so good food by the way) I was concentrating on the limestone.
Being on location during the hour before sunset was a distinct advantage here, as the low angled light from the setting sun picked out all the contours and textures of the rocks in exquisite detail, and these two exposed caves looked just like the empty eye sockets of a bleached skull.
So Liz and I spent a happy half hour looking at cliffs, me with the purpose of photographing the interesting limestone and Liz watching the death defyling antics of the local mountain goats as they leapt from one impossible ledge to the next.
Finally the sun dipped too low, drawing a veil of shadow over the scene and calling a halt to the photography for another day.
