Poeple may think that the life of an outdoor photographer is one of quiet contemplation, of sitting quietly in a spot waiting for the perfect juxtaposition of light and subject matter before taking that single, perfect exposure.
Ha ha!
On rare occasions that's how it goes, but more often than not it's a sweaty race against time to find a shooting position, get all your clobber set up and bang off a few frames before the light goes.
That's what happened to me on what was supposed to be a relaxed evening visit to sa Colabra on the north-western coast of Mallorca.
As soon as Liz and I arrived in the car park about a quarter of a mile from the sea and I saw the low angled sunlight hitting the dramatic headland I knew the race was on.
Laden with kit I could only manage a jog-march from the car to the seafront, followed by a frantic search to find a suitable viewpoint, especially as there was a yacht moored in a photographically strategic position which would make for a great focal point.
Gasping and panting, I frantically set up tripod, camera, lens, ND grad filter, remote release, checking the camera's setting as I went, just in time to capture this frame before the light died.
I'm glad to say the rest of the evening's photography proceeded at a much more leisurely pace!
