A beautiful sunny afternoon in early May and my wife Liz and I were busy exploring somewhere we'd never been before, the reservoir of Marchlyn Mawr and its surroundings, high up in the Glyderau mountains at the foot of Elidir Fach.
This reservoir is part of the Electric Mountain pumped hydro-electric storage system, and we were guided here with directions supplied by local photographer Nick Livesey of the Soul of Snowdonia Gallery, so a big 'Thank You' to him for pointing us in the right direction.
The walk up to the reservoir is a gentle one, up a well tarmaced and maintained service road, while taking in some lovely views of the surrounding mountains and landscape on the way.
The sky was almost cloudless during our climb, and images like this one of a drystone wall under a clear blue sky would have been somewhat lacking in interest if it wasn't for a gibbous moon hanging low in the heavens.
For this composition I cropped the lower part of the image and arranged the line of the wall to provide a diagonal eyeline from the bottom corner of the frame up to the moon in the top right corner, adding a dynamism and purpose to the final picture.
