A spur of the moment decision to drive around the Wirral Peninsula to have a look at the Liverpool skyline found my wife Liz and I stopping at Seacombe Dock Ferry Terminal, home of the world famous Mersey Ferry.
For Liz, being a Liverpudlian, this brought back memories of childhood trips from Anfield, over the River Mersey by ferry, to spend a day at the seaside of New Brighton with her parents, now deceased.
So of course, we had to take the Mersey Ferry over to Liverpool and back for old times' sake.
We were just too late to catch this particular sailing, watching as the ferry left Seacombe Dock for its short, but iconic, voyage over the water to Liverpool and back.
But never mind, as the departures are many and regular, so we caught the next crossing instead.
