For one day during our two week stay in the Italian Lakes my wife Liz and I took the train to Milan for a look around.
Normally we tend to avoid cities while on holiday, but in this case we had a special invitation to meet up with my Italian friend and business associate, Attilio Alessio, for a guided tour.
We had a lovely day with Attilio, taking in the sights of Milan by taxi. (I wouldn't have wanted to drive there!)
One place that we visited was the Duomo, set in a huge open square, but that wasn't what drew my attention, as on one side of the square was an entrance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping mall, an architectural marvel built with grace and an eye to the effect of light through an amazing glass roof.
I wasn't the only one appreciating the architecture, as the place was rammed full of tourists and locals, all either shopping or gazing around in wonder.
I soon gave up trying to capture the grandeur and bustle of the place in a single photograph, choosing instead to create this panoramic collage which gives a better idea of this amazing gem.
